Planning for 2012 goal setting session 4 ROSEMOUNT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL City Council Special Meeting: December 14, 2011 AGENDA ITEM: Planning for 2012 goal setting meetings G N DA S CTION: PREPARED BY: Dwight Johnson, City Administrator AGENDA NO. ATTACHMENTS: 2011 Adopted Goals APPROVED BY: o tt) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Consider dates, times and the structure for 2012 -2013 goal setting meeting(s). BACKGROUND Each year, the Council sets aside time to review citywide goals for the next 12 -18 months. The Council has previously indicated interest in starting early on goal setting in 2012 since no new council members are taking office this year. DISCUSSION Two of the 2011 -12 goals that we adopted in April were to "prioritize desired amenities" and "develop several five to ten year goals" in addition to the shorter term goals we normally have. Both of these items could be structured into our next goal setting sessions if we wish to do so. In order to plan for the upcoming goal setting meetings, the following items should be considered: • Do we want to have a two day (e.g. Friday night /Saturday morning) or a one day (e.g. all day Saturday) format? • What staff members need to be there and when? • What dates are available for all council members? • What changes (if any) do we want to make in our process? • What do we want our final product to look like in terms of number and specificity of goals? • Where do we want to hold the goal setting meetings? RECOMMENDATION The Council should rovide staff direction as necessary to plan the goal setting meetings. p n' p g g s. g , . ' , " 4 4 a e r. i CITY O F ROSEMOUNT A ' Y ' GO ALS FOR 2011 . i , City Mission Statement t r w Rosemount off opportunities to l ive, work, shop, pla and learn while maintaining our unique history.
