RECOMMENDED.ACTION: Discussion and consideration for the replacerneh of a pick -up:
truck for the fire department. r
ISSUE : -_
The replacement of a 1999 pick -up truck is in the fire department 2013 CIP. The truck has been used by
the fire department and is beginning its 14t year as an emergency response vehicle. The vehicle is currently
assigned to the Fire Chief or the duty officer who is filling in if the Chief is not available: This truck is the
vehicle that receiv es the most use, responding to over 90% of the emergency calls, and for
administrative duties. .
We have known for some time that the truck should probably have at least two tires replaced, along with
some front end alignment work completed. A recent inspection by the city mechanics indicated that there
is rust to portions of the under carriage. The exterior of the body will be showing rust soon also. Pictures
showing the condition of the vehicle are attached or will be available at the work session.
1 Considering the possibility that:the truck would be replaced in 2013 we have postponed other updates.
] The light bar is in need of some attention. We have postponed the installation of a computer mount and
computer in this vehicle to save the cost of removal and' reinstallation in as =little as 9 months. We did not
feel it would be a wise use -of finances to move ahead with the above mentioned repairs if we could
'possibly make the vehicle usable until next year: , -,,

This vehicle has developed a substantial oil-leak. The city mechanics indicate thaf it has a cracked
manifold. The estimate to make only the manifold repair is,$2500.00.
We are looking at a large cost that would be incurred to keep this vehicle in service, along with the short
continued usefulness of a 1999 vehicle. Because ()fall of the above mentioned reasons, it seemed much
more fiscally,prudent research the possible replacemenf of this vehicle at this time. '
The anticipated value based on the helly.Blue Book listing for this 1999 vehicle is between $5,000 and
$7,500. :
The estiinated cost to replace the vehicle at this time is listed below. There are two options listed. The
'1 vehicle options that would fit the Fire Department's needs are a pick -up truck or an SUN` type vehicle.
