RECOMMENDED 'ACTION: Motion for the City Council.to authorize the advertisement for
bid for the UMore Athletic Complex Ball Field Project - Phase One.
ISSUE
Staff and the City's design consultants' have finished the plans and specifications for phase one of the
UMore Ball Field project. The final plans and specs have been created based on a construction budget of
$800,000. The main amenities to be built with the first phase of the project include: a parking lot,
irrigation system, field fencing, landscaping, ag -lime infields, underground utilities and other ancillary
items. With the improvements being proposed with phase one of the project, we will have two playable
fields once the turf has time to establish properly.
On Monday, February 27, 2012, the Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the project and
recommended the City Council approve placing an advertisement for bid for the project.
BACKGROUND
In August of 2011 the City of Rosemount completed the process of acquiring 27 acres of land to be used
for athletic fields through a pre - dedication agreement with the University of Minnesota. Staff and the
City's design consultants finished the design development planning (stepl) of the UMore Ball Field project
in the summer of 2011 and the plans were shared with the City Council.
In October of 2011, the City Council approved having the design consultants start the work on the next
phase of the project, construction documents (step 2). This step included having WSB /HKgi prepare the
construction documents needed to build the first phase of the project.
SUMMARY
Staff is recommending the City Council authorize the advertisement for bid for the UMore Athletic Ball
Field Project.
The advertisement for bid and the bidding documents will be on file at the Parks and Recreation
Department's office and available for review.
Once the project is publicly bid as per the City's Purchasing Policy, staff will bring back the bid results for
the City Council to consider accepting and awarding a contract..
