ISSUE
At the City Council Work Session on February 15, 2012 staff presented a concept plan for replacing the
front steps at the Steeple Center. A photo of the existing steps is included in the packet. The proposed
design that was shared with the City Council at the Work Session is attached as Plan #1. It was
recommended by Council that the ADA ramp be added back into the project. The design of the new front
steps with the ramp is nearly complete.
Recently it was requested that we consider another design option that might be similar to the photos
identified as Plan #3.
BACKGROUND
The City of Rosemount has received Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from the
Dakota County Community Development Agency (CDA). The grant funds have been identified for
improving code compliance issues at City facilities. Staff has identified the need to replace the front steps
at the Rosemount Steeple Center. The existing steps do not meet current building codes for the rise of the
steps, hand rails and the size of the landing outside of the front doors.
The replacement project would consist of expanding the landing area and adding step access on three
sides.
The replacement of the front steps was included in the proposed improvements for the Steeple Center as
part of the 2008 Referendum for the Steeple Center /Athletic Complex projects.
SUMMARY
Staff would like for the City Council to discuss replacing the front steps at the Steeple Center and provide
staff with direction on to proceed.
