From its origins serving rural AmeYicans, 4-H has grown to serve thousands of communities, large and small. It aims to enable youth to emexge as leaders through hands-on learning, research-based 4-H youth programs, and adult mentorship, in order to give back to their local communities. The pxogxam operates in Dakota County with the support of the Urvversity of Minnesota Extension Service. Students who take part in 4-H can apply for the Key AwaYd, which is pxovided to members of high-school age who have taken paxt in the organization for five years and who complete at least seven of nine Yequixements Yelated to leadership and community service. This year, two Rosemount students have achieved the 4-H Key Award. Sam Broback is a junior at Rosemount High School. He has been active in 4-H for nine years, and participates every yeaY in demonstrations and photography. Sam plans to attend a four-year college and major in business. Serena Kucera has been in 4-H for five years. Her main projects are sheep, sewing, and vegetables. Serena says her favorite part of the sheep project is doing Lamb Lead. After she graduates, she plans to major in biology and minor in Fxench.
