Thousands of Minnesota students benefit from participation in the 4 -H youth development program.
From its origins serving rural Americans, 4 -H has grown to serve thousands of communities, large and
small. It aims to enable youth to emerge as leaders through hands -on learning, research -based 4 -H youth
programs, and adult mentorship, in order to give back to their local communities. The program operates
in Dakota County with the support of the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
Students who take part in 4 -H can apply for the Key Award, which is provided to members of high- school
age who have taken part in the organization for five years and who complete at least seven of nine
requirements related to leadership and community service. This year, two Rosemount students have
achieved the 4 -H Key Award. At its last meeting, the Council commended Serena Kucera. Tonight, the
Council welcomes:
Sam Broback is a junior at Rosemount High School. He has been active in 4 -H for nine years,
and participates every year in demonstrations and photography. Sam plans to attend a four -year
college and major in business.
