BACKGROUND
At its work session on May 9th, the City Council discussed the Chief of Police selection process. The
Council has directed that staff recruit and identify the top three applicants. The first round of
interviews is set for July 18` Seven candidates will be interviewed on that date by two interview panels,
including individuals from the community.
From this initial interview, we intend to identify the top 3 candidates to move on to an interview with
the City Council. An in -depth assessment process of the finalists in this key leadership position is also
recommended. The recommended assessment includes: specific testing, inventories, in- basket
exercises, etc. The estimated cost for this is about $2750 per finalist.
Some topics that need discussion include:
• What dates work for the City Council to conduct the final interview?
• When does the City Council want to hold a meet and greet /open house for the finalists?
SUMMARY
Staff requests feedback on the Police Chief recruitment process and dates for final interviews and open
house.
