RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Adopt a Resolution Receiving Bids and Awarding
Contract for the Brazil Avenue Improvements Project, City Project 442
BACKGROUND:
On Friday, July 27, 2012, six bids were received for the Brazil Avenue Improvements Project and read
aloud publicly. The low bidder is Northwest Asphalt, Inc. who submitted a base bid in the amount of
$662,094.30, which is 6.8% lower than the engineering estimated construction cost of $710,774.50.
This project will be funded with a combination of Street GIP funds and other City reserve funds.
SUMMARY:
Staff recommends Council adopt the resolution to receive bids and award the contract for the Brazil
Avenue Improvements Project, City Project 442.

RESOLUTION 2012 —
A RESOLUTION RECEIVING BIDS AND AWARDING CONTRACT
FOR THE BRAZIL AVENUE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
CITY PROJECT 442
BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount, Minnesota, as follows:
1. All bids on construction of the Brazil Avenue Improvement Project are hereby received and
tabulated.
2. The bid of Northwest Asphalt, Inc., in the amount of $662,094.30 for the construction of said
improvements is in accordance with the plans and specifications and advertisement for bids, and is
the lowest responsible bid and shall be and hereby is accepted.
3. The Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder
for the construction of said improvements for and on behalf of the City of Rosemount.
4. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all bidders the deposits
made with their bids, except that the deposit of all successful bidder and the next two lowest
bidders shall be retained until a contract has been executed.
ADOPTED this 6th day of August, 2012.

Dear Mayor and Council Members:
Bids were received for the above - referenced project on Friday, July 27, 2012, and were opened
and read aloud. Six bids were received. The bids were checked for mathematical accuracy and
tabulated. Please find enclosed the bid tabulation indicating the low bid as submitted by
Northwest Asphalt, Inc., of Shakopee, Minnesota, in the amount of $662,094.30. The Engineer's
Estimate was $710,774.50.
We recommend that the City Council consider these bids and award a contract in the amount of
$662,094.30 to Northwest Asphalt, Inc. based on the results of the bids received.
