ISSUE
At the last Port Authority meeting there was additional discussion about the Business Appreciation
Lunch and using that event as an opportunity to survey the attendees. Staff mentioned the "clicker
voting" that had occurred at the Greater MSP event which allow instantaneous compilation of
responses which were depicted on a screen for all attendees to view. The idea was to introduce the
intent to communicate more with the Business Community and request additional feedback through
various means including surveys. This will allow us to notice business ahead of time that they will be
asked to fill out shorter surveys over the next year through our new website.
I have added some additional questions to the draft survey, but for purposes of the Business
Appreciation Lunch only 12 -15 questions should be done. That will allow some time for a quick
update about the economic development activities for the past year and what is coming on the
horizon. I have highlighted the questions which could be asked at the luncheon. For example, with
the new website, it makes more sense to query businesses in 6 to 9 months about how effective
they've found the new website. However, it makes sense now to ask if they have gone to the new
website, which also helps promote it.
I have contacted a company that provides the technology and clicker system. It is estimated that the
cost of the package, given 100 people in attendance, would be $900. That would be in addition to
the cost of providing the meal and background music, which has generally run around $1500. There
is funding available in the budget for the additional expense if the Port Authority is comfortable
renting the system for this one -time event.
