He will be present for the ceremonial oath of office on Tuesday evening. In order for Mr. Werner to legally assume the Chief's position in a timely manner, the City Clerk privately administered the oath Friday morning. Chief Werner has 24 years of progressive experience in law enforcement. Most recently,he served the City of Burnsville for 13 years and was a Captain there for the past eight years. He previously served the cities of Deephaven,Perham and Addison, Illinois. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Police Leadership and Administration from the University of St.Thomas and also attended the FBI National Academy and Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command. He completed his undergraduate work in Organizational Management and Communication at Concordia University in St. Paul. Chief Werner was appointed to the position by the City Council on August 21st following an extensive process that included a community open house for the three finalists for the position;interviews with staff, community representatives and the Council;an assessment lab; and various background checks. Chief Bud Shaver of West St. Paul will be present to pin the stars on Chief Werner. Minneapolis Police Officer Martin Werner,brother of Chief Werner,will pin his badge on. The prescribed oath of office is attached. STATE OF MINNESOTA ) COUNTY OF DAKOTA ) § CITY OF ROSEMOUNT ) I, Eric Werner, solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Minnesota, and faithfully discharge the duties as Police Chief for the City of Rosemount in the County of Dakota and the State of Minnesota, to the best of my judgment and ability.
