RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Adopt a Resolution Receiving Bids and Awarding the Contract for the Civic Campus Connector Trail Improvements, City Project 441. BACKGROUND: On Friday, September 7,2012,bids for this project were received and read aloud publicly. After verification of bids received, the low bidder is Minnesota Dirt Works, Inc,in the amount of$245,932.55. The Civic Campus Connector Trail extension is a 10-foot wide trail located along the west side of TH 3 from the existing trail at the south entrance to the Community Center to Connemara Trail along the former Dodd Boulevard alignment.This trail will enhance connectivity to various public facilities in the area and improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists along TH 3. It has been identified as a priority in the City's Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan, as well as the Safe Routes to School plans for the nearby high school,middle school,and elementary school. Funding will be provided through a $100,000 DNR grant which was awarded to the City for this project. The remaining balance will be funded from the City's Trail Fund. It is anticipated that the public improvements for the trail will be fully completed,including restoration items,by the end of the 2012 construction season. SUMMARY: Staff recommends that Council adopt the attached resolution receiving the bids and awarding the contract for the Civic Campus Connector Trail Improvements, City Project 441. BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Rosemount,Minnesota, as follows: All bids on construction of Civic Campus Connector Trail Improvements have been received and tabulated. 1. The bid of Minnesota Dirt Works, Inc. in the amount of$245,932.55 for the construction of said improvements is in accordance with the plans and specifications and advertisement for bids, and is the lowest responsible bid and shall be and hereby is accepted. 2. The Mayor and Clerk are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with said bidder for the construction of said improvements for and on behalf of the City of Rosemount conditioned upon receipt of an executed easement from the property owner in a form approved by the City Attorney. 3. The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to return forthwith to all bidders the deposits made with their bids, except that the deposit of the successful bidder and the next two lowest bidders shall be retained until a contract has been executed.
