ISSUE
The Business Appreciation lunch is scheduled for November 15, 2012 and 276 invitations have been
mailed. The luncheon has also been announced, and will continue to be, on the weekly Business
News email. As of November 2, there are 23 people who RSVP'd representing 18 businesses.
As the Port Authority is aware, at the Business Appreciation lunch, the City will take the opportunity
to survey attending businesses. A copy of the proposed survey is included. The questions are taken
from earlier discussions and also from the Lakeville and Burnsville surveys we had previously
reviewed. Staff intends to preview the survey with a couple of local businesses, hopefully next week.
There is a limitation on the number of questions that can be asked given the time available.
Additionally, the system being used doesn't allow the opportunity for open ended questions. That
means we need to have multiple choice questions that would provide the most logical answers for
the respondents to choose from. As mentioned before, the idea of the survey continues to be the
communication outreach the Port Authority has initiated with local businesses and the community.
Further, the idea serves to kick off the notion that additional survey requests may come
intermittently via email to glen additional information from local businesses. It is anticipated that the
program would also be rounded out by a year in review which would highlight projects that have
occurred or are in process that impact our commercial community.
