RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discuss dates, location and format of planned goal setting
meetings for 2013-2014.
BACKGROUND
Early each year, the Council establishes a special meeting to discuss goals for the upcoming year. The
meetings are typically held in January or February, after any new council members are seated. Staff would
like to begin planning for the meetings.
DISCUSSION
Staff requests that the Council consider the following questions:
1. When should the meeting(s) be held? Typically, the Council has met for several hours on a
Friday evening and then reconvened on Saturday morning. Dates brought up so far include January 11-12
and January 18-19. Councilmember elect Vanessa Demuth has indicated that she could be available on
either of these weekends. For your information,January 21st is the Martin Luther King holiday.
2. Where should the meetings be held? We have sometimes met at City Hall,but have also met
offsite in the past.
3. What staff members are requested to be at the meeting? For the past several years, only the
City Administrator has been asked to attend. In previous years, other staff members were invited also.
4. Any special provisions or requests? Meal preferences? Any changes in format for the two
days?
