RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to recommend the City include the parking lot, trails
and basketball court as bids alternates to the public improvement project for Prestwick
Place Seventh Addition.
ISSUE
The developer is continuing to add phases to the Prestwick Place north of County Road 42 and west of
Akron Avenue. A map of their development is included in the packet. The next phases of development
will bring a public street in front of the portion of the City park that provides access to the parking lot.
As we have done at Brockway Park and also Meadows Park, we have included our parking lots, trails and
other asphalt work with the public street improvement projects. This method usually saves us some money
because these projects draw many bidders and the project is large enough that the bids are competitive.
The estimates that we have on file for these improvements indicate that the cost for the parking lot, trails
and basketball court would be approximately $115,000 (including design fees and a contingency).
SUMMARY
Staff is recommending that the City included the parking lot, trails and basketball court for Prestwick Park
as bid alternates to the public improvement project for Prestwick Seventh Addition. Because these are bid
alternates, we do not have to move forward with the improvements if we are not happy with the bids we
receive. Should we decide to move forward with project the funding would come from the parks
improvement fund.
