Steeple Center Sound and Lighting ImprovementsROSEMOUNTEXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL City Council Work Session Meeting: May 15, 2013 AGENDA ITEM: Steeple Center Sound and Lighting Improvements AGENDA SECTION: Updates PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation Director AGENDA NO. C. ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDED ACTION: None, update only. ISSUE The design work for the sound and lighting improvements at the Steeple Center is nearly complete. Staff recently met with members of the Rosemount Area Arts Council (RAAC) to share information about the proposed improvements with them. The meeting went well and they were supportive of what is being proposed. The CIP budget for 2013 includes $100,000 for the sound and lights. RAAC also has $5,000 in grant money that they will be putting towards the project. The cost estimate for the improvements is currently at $103,000. The approximate breakdown of the improvements is $60,000 for the sound system and $43,000 for lighting improvements. Staff is planning to meet one more time with RAAC and our design engineer to clarify a few technical questions RAAC had and then staff is planning to put the project out to bid. It is expected that the proposed improvements would be installed in late July. One item that came up during the discussion about lighting is the need for window shades. Window shades are currently not included in the project being proposed. Staff has recently submitted the window shades as an item in the 2014 CIP budget at an estimated price of $35,000. Staff is still looking at a few different options for the window shades. RAAC indicated that they would prefer to see the window shades installed prior to the other project in the 2013 CIP budget for the Steeple Center which is the addition of air conditioning. Staff was hoping to be able to possibly include the addition of air conditioning at the Steeple Center with the construction of the Senior Housing and Senior Center projects. Staff would like to briefly discuss with the Council the timing of the proposed air conditioning project and window shades project.
