BACKGROUND
The Danbury Way Street and Utility Improvement Project, City Project 453 is currently programmed to be
completed in 2015/2016. The project was previously scheduled to be completed in 2010 but was deferred
to advance other projects within the city. Over the past several years, the condition of the street has
deteriorated significantly to the point that maintenance of the roadway is a growing challenge along with
the receipt of phone calls and inquiries from residents as to when the project will be completed. Since
2007, the city has received 22 comments regarding road maintenance, potholes, and a lack of lighting.
Based on the rural residential development along the roadway, the estimated assessments per unit based on
the city's policy (35% of the street improvement cost) are significant. To assist with the review of this
project and the proposed assessments, a general benefit appraisal consultation was completed. Based on
this consultation, the estimated benefit associated with the project is $11,000 to $12,500 per unit.
Following is a summary of the current estimated costs and funding sources for the project:
• Estimated Project Cost $2,027,100
• Estimated Special Assessment Revenue $352,000
• Estimated Street CIP Funding $1,396,800
• Estimated Storm Utility Funding $278,300
At this time, staff would like to review the status of the project with Council and discuss the scheduling of
public neighborhood meeting this fall. With the recent resident interest in the schedule for the completion
of these improvements, the goal of a neighborhood meeting is to update the residents on the current
anticipated schedule and preliminary estimated project costs and assessments.
