RECOMMENDED ACTION: Provide direction on date, location and agenda of the
Business Appreciation Luncheon.
ISSUE
The Business Appreciation lunch is usually scheduled for early November or early December to
avoid holidays. Staff would like input from the Port Authority as to whether the Port Authority
would like to sponsor a Business Appreciation Lunch and if so, when you would like to have it
scheduled. We had also talked about having Laurie Crow from Open to Business as the featured
presenter with updates on what's going on in the community also included. In the past, the City has
not held the event every year; in fact the appreciation lunch has been held in 2008, 2009, 2011, and
2012. Last year the main presentation was the "clicker" survey.
Date
The luncheon should be scheduled either early November or early December to avoid conflicts with
the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. If the Port Authority chooses early November,
invitations will need to be mailed in October with possibly a "Save the Date" mailing in late
September.
Location
The luncheon last year was held at the Community Center. With the banquet hall at the Community
Center being newly remodeled, the Port Authority may want to have the luncheon there.
Agenda
With the completion of the Business Incubator on the City's website, Staff suggests having Laurie
Crow of the Open to Business program as the main speaker at the luncheon, with the Mayor giving
a brief presentation.
RECOMMENDATION
Provide staff direction on the date, location and agenda of the Business Appreciation Luncheon.
