Listed below are the projects and an update on what is happening with each project. UMore Ball Fields — The two field complex is ready for play. The grand opening of new UMore ball fields took place on Tuesday, September 3. The City Council, members of the Parks and Recreation Commission, representatives from local softball organizations, and city staff were on hand to celebrate the opening of the fields. After a brief ceremony, the Rosemount traveling girl's softball team held a scrimmage on the fields, marking the first approved use of the facility. Groups from RAAA softball and the DCTC softball team have played and sent back favorable reports. The decision on who will use the fields next year will come after the City has a facility scheduling meeting with the local youth sports associations later this year. Flint Hills Athletic Fields — Work at the Flint Hills Resources Athletic Complex is for the most part complete. We are hoping for a warm, moist autumn to help the seed germinate and the turf to become established. In the past two weeks, the parking lot was paved, trees were planted, and the playing surfaces were seeded. It is our expectation that these new fields will be ready for use in the spring of 2015. S lash Pad — The City Council recently reviewed the attached concept plan for the proposed improvements to Central Park. The current concept plan includes plaza area /winter ice skating oval, signature playground and splash pad. Hw 3 Underpass — The Highway 3 project is complete other than some fencing and lighting in the tunnel. Prestwick Park — The improvements that will include a parking lot, trail and basketball court have been staked and cut in. They are all scheduled to be paved prior to October 6, 2013. Erickson Park Shelter Remodel — We are coming to the end of our season of heavy use at Erickson Park. We will be looking to start the improvements in late September or early October. Because we will be using grant funds from the Dakota County CDA, we were not allowed to start any construction until after July1. This was not an issue due to the heavy use the park receives in the summer months. Arena Skate Tile — The installation of new skate tile for the arena is complete. The installation took place in two phases due to the installer not being able to source enough tiles to complete project at one time. Ash Tree Removal— The Public Work staff continue to remove ash trees in City parks and replace the trees with funding provided by a DNR grant. City staff have also moved all of the trees from the City's tree nursery into City parks. Neighborhood Enhancements (Benches and Landsca jU) — Staff hopes to have the improvements start the first week in October. We will be focusing on five new enhancement areas. Tennis Courts — We received two bids for the construction of the tennis courts on ,the soccer fields site at Erickson Park. These bids were significantly higher than the engineer's estimate. The work included a considerable amount of soil modification. Both bids were rejected and it was decided to look into possibly doing the soil corrections outside of the construction contract. We feel we might see lower quotes if the soils corrections are done outside of the main project. If the soil work is completed this fall, the tennis court construction project will be rebid sometime this winter. Steeple Center Sound and Lighting L;Orovements — The project is moving along nicely. Per the specifications for the project, the improvements will need to be installed by October 11, 2013. Staff does not see that deadline as being an issue. Enhancements to the Community Center Banquet Hall — Staff are working with a local contractor to install a wall fountain the lobby of the Banquet Hall at the Community Center. We are also working on adding a natural gas fire pit to the patio of the Banquet Hall along with some high top tables.
