Fall Clean Up - Rosemount's Fall Clean Up was held on Saturday, October 5, at the Public Works
facility. We serviced 206 vehicles, the most for a fall clean up since 2009. At these clean up events we
allow homeowners to dispose of large, bulky items not normally accepted by their trash haulers. The
ability to dispose of trash and construction debris is a big draw for the event, and our goal is to keep as
much of the materials we accept out of the landfill as possible. We accomplish this by recycling all of the
appliances, electronics, mattresses and box springs, carpeting, scrap metal, bicycles, and car tires and
batteries that are dropped off.
Bench and Plaque at Schwarz Pond Park - A seating area including a bench and a memorial
plaque honoring Ben Kopp, a Rosemount resident killed in action in Afghanistan, has recently been
constructed in Schwarz Pond Park. The bench and plaque were provided by Jill Stephenson, Ben's
mother. The city provided the pavers for the seating area and city staff did the installation. The spot
selected for the memorial is just east of the footbridge in the park, an area significant to the family since
Ben had his high school graduation picture taken on the bridge.
Erickson Park Tennis Courts - Minnesota Dirt Works Inc., an excavation and construction firm has
been hired to make soil corrections at the Erickson Park Tennis Court project site. When construction of
the tennis courts was put out for bid earlier this fall the bids were significantly above the engineer's
estimate, due in large part to the necessary soil corrections. Those bids were rejected and the soil
corrections will be completed this fall outside of the rest of the construction project. With these soil
corrections completed, the tennis court project will be rebid and construction will begin in the spring of
2014.
Steeple Center Sound and Lighting - The theatrical lighting and sound system upgrade project at
the Steeple Center is near completion. The remaining work includes fine-tuning the lighting system and
completing our final walk through and punch list. The sound quality in the facility is amazing and the new
sound and lighting options available to our permit holders have been very well received. On top of a great
speaker system, the Steeple Center now has specific instrument and vocal microphones, theatrical headset
microphones and general handheld wireless microphones. The lighting is state of the art and is a
combination of color mixing LED and stage lighting. Day and evening training sessions have been offered
and both RAAC and City on a Hill Church sent their volunteers to learn the new equipment. Both
organizations will put the system to use for the first time last weekend when RAAC hosted a movie Friday
night and City on a Hill Church's full band utilized the system at their Sunday morning service.
