'Z ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: OD,/ RECOMMENDED ACTION: Award commendations For the eighth consecutive year, the Rosemount High School Marching Band has won the Minnesota state championship. We honor these students and their supporters for the hard work that brings attention to their school and community. As always, the RHS Marching Band began work during the summer. The Band earned the Grand Champion award from the Minnesota State Fair for the fifth consecutive year. It was undefeated during competitions this fall. Last month the Band won the grand championship at the "Youth in Music" competition at the Metrodome, winning the state title and top honors among all competitors. Several Rosemount musicians won recognition in their specialties, including the drum majors who join us tonight. The Irish kept their musical momentum going by taking first place in their size classification at the Bands of America Super Regional Championships in St. Louis. It placed seventh among bands of all sizes. This is the ninth consecutive year that Rosemount has earned finals status at the "Super Regional" event. Rosemount performed in front of more than 20,000 people in St.Louis. But that is a small crowd compared with the audience for the Band's next performance. Students will march in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, Calif.,in January 2014. The streets will hold 700,000 onlookers, and 39 million are expected to tune in on TV. It's an ambitious undertaking for students and their families, and the Band is asking for the public's help to raise funds at www.rosemountband.com. Scheduled to attend tonight's Council meeting on behalf of the students are Drum Majors: Emily Brossart Jessie Cox Tony Hanto and George Tangen Band Directors: Steve Olsen Leon Sieve and Bojan Hoover
