RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve working with Commercial Recreation
Specialists/Vortex to provide the City with equipment specifications for the splash pad
project.
ISSUE
At the November 5, 2013 work session the City Council discussed the information received from splash
pad equipment vendors. The information reviewed was in response to the Request for Qualifications
(RFQ) that was sent to four vendors in the twin cities who represent splash pad equipment companies.
An RFQ Comparison Spreadsheet was created to summarize the four proposals and is included in the
packet.At the work session, the City Council indicated that they would prefer to work with Commercial
Recreation Specialists/Vortex and use their equipment specifications for our splash pad project.
BACKGROUND
The City recently sent out a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to splash pad equipment vendors. The City
needs to add splash pad equipment specifications to our overall general specifications package for the
project. This is what the splash pad vendor will supply to us. In our project specification,we will identify
the splash pad equipment that is to be supplied for the project and then contractors can bid on this
equipment or propose similar equipment that meets our specifications. This equipment will be approved
by the City prior to bidding.
The RFQ submittals were reviewed by staff and also by the Parks and Recreation Commission. The
Commission recommended working with Commercial Recreation Specialist/Vortex. Staff supports this
recommendation. The Commission also recommended that we look closer at a recirculating water system
and the reuse of the water.
