ISSUE
The topic of invasive species in Carroll's Woods was discussed at our regular meeting in October. Staff has
done some checking with Flint Hills Resources about their use of goats to remove buckthorn and other
invasive species. Flint Hills felt the use of the goats went well and had a positive impact on the property.
Included in the packet are before and after photos of the work that was done at Flint Hills.
Goat Peak Ranch of Redwing, MN was the farm that provided the goats for the Flint Hills property. Their
website is www.goatpeakranch.com. Staff has called them twice but has yet to receive any pricing
information from them for invasive species control. Staff hopes to have an estimate prior to the meeting
on Monday.
Staff has also recently met with Applied Ecological Services to discuss possible management strategies on
dealing with invasive species in other natural areas in our parks such Erickson Pond, Meadows Park, Brazil
Avenue and Schwarz Pond Park.
