Youth Program - On Saturday, November 16, the Parks & Recreation Department hosted the annual
SORR Mom/Son Morning of Fun Lil' Buccaneer Bash at the Steeple Center. This special event was
hosted by the SORR communities of Apple Valley, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville, Rosemount and Savage.
These communities have teamed up to offer a series of family-oriented dances and special events each year
to celebrate togetherness and strengthen the special bond between family members. We had 55 couples
register for this pirate -themed event. The party included upbeat music provided by a DJ, dancing, an "X
Marks the Spot" treasure hunt, along with exciting games, projects and food. Each couple also received a
special keepsake photo taken by a professional photographer to remember the event. Our next
collaboration is the popular father/daughter dance planned for February 21, 2014 in the Banquet Hall of
the Community Center.
Meeting with RAHA — Staff recently met with members of the Rosemount Area Hockey Association
(RAHA). RAHA shared information about the growth they are seeing in their programs and also shared
with staff the amount of ice they are renting for the 2013-2014 season. RAHA would like to start
discussions about the feasibility of a second sheet of ice in Rosemount that would also provide an indoor
space for ice out activities such as lacrosse, soccer, tennis or other indoor sports.
