DISCUSSION
Recruitment of all commissions is typically held in late January of each year. Staff is requesting that City
Council provide guidance on how to move forward with the recruitment process.
Current openings for 2014 include:
• two 3-year terms on the Planning Commission
• two 3-year terms on the Parks Commissions
• one 3-year term on the Utilities Commission
• one 6-year resident term on the Port Authority
On March 31,2014 the following commissioner terms will expire:
Planning Commission: John Powell and Mike Weber (neither are seeking reappointment)
Parks Commission: Joanne Cope and Maureen Bartz (both are seeking reappointment)
Utilities Commission: Don Harmsen (seeking reappointment))
Port Authority: Mary Riley (not seeking reappointment)
The two options for the recruitment and appointment process are:
• Automadcally reappoint current commissioners that are interested in serving another term
• Recruit for all openings and hold interviews for all that apply,including incumbents
Staff is requesting that City Council determine which option to pursue, as well as interview date(s) for
applicants. Staff will send out a press release announcing the recruitment,post the information on the
website, and have an online application process available.
