RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Updated Public Works Quality Standards
ISSUE:
The Public Works Quality Standards, originally adopted by the City Council in October 2006, outlines the
objectives and standards that have been established as a guide for the daily activities and responsibilities of
the Department. This document is reviewed and updated annually to meet the changing needs of the
organization and community. Staff is recommending Council approval of the proposed revisions to this
document.
BACKGROUND:
The attached Public Works Quality Standards includes the following notable changes:
• Revisions to the Parks and Grounds Maintenance section beginning on page 19 to include-the
following:
✓ Flint Hills athletic fields
✓ New tennis courts planned at Erickson Park
✓ New section for Maintenance of Natural Spaces
✓ New service levels for the Rosemount Middle School pleasure ice rink
• The Idling Policy and the Boulevard and Right-of-Way Maintenance Policy have been revised and
added to the Quality Standards in Appendix A and Appendix D, respectively. Including these policies
within the Quality Standards is beneficial in two ways:
✓ It eliminates duplication and provides consistency between all documents
✓ It ensures the policies will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary
