Works/ City Engineer ATTACHMENTS: Public Works Quality Standards APPROVED BY: Pal - RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to Approve the Updated Public Works Quality Standards ISSUE: The Public Works Quality Standards, originally adopted by the City Council in October 2006, outlines the objectives and standards that have been established as a guide for the daily activities and responsibilities of the Department. This document is reviewed and updated annually to meet the changing needs of the organization and community. Staff is recommending Council approval of the proposed revisions to this document. BACKGROUND: The attached Public Works Quality Standards includes the following notable changes: • Revisions to the Parks and Grounds Maintenance section beginning on page 19 to include-the following: ✓ Flint Hills athletic fields ✓ New tennis courts planned at Erickson Park ✓ New section for Maintenance of Natural Spaces ✓ New service levels for the Rosemount Middle School pleasure ice rink • The Idling Policy and the Boulevard and Right-of-Way Maintenance Policy have been revised and added to the Quality Standards in Appendix A and Appendix D, respectively. Including these policies within the Quality Standards is beneficial in two ways: ✓ It eliminates duplication and provides consistency between all documents ✓ It ensures the policies will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary G:\Chris\PW Quality Standards\20140121 CC Quality Standards Update.docx • A new Asset Evaluation Form in Cartegraph,used in conjunction with the Equipment Evaluation Matrix that was created and approved in 2012 (shown in Appendix B). • Revised standards for painting and carpet replacement for high-traffic and low-traffic office areas. SUMMARY: Staff recommends Council approval of the updated Public Works Quality Standards,including the revised policies included within. 2
