Steeple Center Shades ROSEMOUNTEXECUTIVE SUMMARY CITY COUNCIL City Council Special Work Session Meeting: January 21, 2014 AGENDA ITEM: Steeple Center Shades AGENDA SECTION: Discussion PREPARED BY: Dan Schultz, Parks and Recreation AGENDA NO. -) , Director G l.' ATTACHMENTS: Project Drawings APPROVED BY: DA-) RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion only. ISSUE In the spring of 2013 the City Council directed staff to pursue bids to install blackout shades for the Steeple Center. The blackout shades would allow for Steeple Center users to host a variety of daytime and early evening events and performances without having the outside light impacting their use of the facility. Because of the unique architecture of the Steeple Center, many of the blinds will need to be custom made or have mechanical motors that raise and lower the blinds. The blinds that are located on the main level of the facility will be inset by hand versus the use of a blind that moves up and down on a track. On the main level of the building, there is limited space to work with due to the location of the heating system and the track system that will be used to hang public art. Drawings with details about the blinds are attached for your review. Staff did share the project details with the Rosemount Area Arts Council (RAAC) and RAAC is supportive of the project. Staff anticipated the project would cost between $70,000 and $80,000. The project was put out for bid and we received four bids. The bid tabulation is below: Name Bid MN Construction $ 90,900 Langer Construction $ 94,000 Terra General Contractors $ 102,800 Meisinger Construction Co. $ 114,900 SUMMARY Staff would like to discuss the details of the project with the City Council and get direction as to how staff should proceed with the project.
