Parks and Recreation Commission Regular Meeting: April 28, 2014
Park Improvement Fund Balance as of March 31, 2014: $389,619.97
Inflows to the Park Improvement Fund last month were as follows:
Dedication fees — $6,800
Grants/Other - $0
Interest - $0
Donations - $0
Expenditures - $13,960.86 (Erickson Park Tennis Courts, Property Taxes for Prestwick
Development and Bella Vista Development)
SRING/SUMMER BROCHURE - The Spring/Summer Parks and Recreation Activities and
Information brochure was delivered to Rosemount residents the week of March 10. Highlights include
special events such as the Lion's Club Spring Egg Hunt, City Clean -Up Day, Arbor Day and all of our
Leprechaun Days events. Summer information includes all of our pre-school, youth and adult sports
along with our popular camps such as Water Park Camp, Adventure Kids Camp, plus a lot more. We had
132 on-line registrations in three days after activating our on-line registration system on the City's website.
ONE BOOK, ONE ROSEMOUNT - The Parks and Recreation Department recently secured a $300
donation from MN Energy Resources for the One Book, One Rosemount collaborative with the Robert
Trail Library. This bi-yearly event will take place in October and include a full month of events and
activities revolving around one book. The book chosen for this year's event is "Where the Mountain
Meets the Moon" by Grace Lin. A fantasy crossed with Chinese folklore, Where the Mountain Meets the
Moon is a timeless story reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz. Beautiful illustrations, printed in full-color,
accompany the text throughout the story. Many library, school and community events will be organized
throughout the month of October to highlight the selected book, including an author reading and book
signing which will be held on Thursday, October 23. This event is hosted by the Parks and Recreation
Department and organized by the Robert Trail Library. The donation received will be used to offset some
of the costs associated with the author visit.

HEALTH FAIR - On Saturday, April 12, the Parks and Recreation Department once again participated in
the Red Pine Elementary School Health and Fitness Fair. This fair has been recognized as a premier event
in supporting health, fitness and wellness for families and children. The Red Pine Elementary Health and
Fitness Committee is committed to a quality Physical Education/Health/Wellness program for every
student. Red Pine's Health and Wellness Program incorporates a multi -dimensional approach to well-being
that promotes student and family responsibility. The wellness committee's goal is to provide students with
the skills and knowledge needed to establish and sustain a healthy and active lifestyle. Our resource table
included information on our summer programming along with the many free youth and family events
offered throughout the summer such as Kids' Corner and music and movies in the park.
PROJECT UPDATES — Staff will provide a verbal update on a number of projects that are under way
in the Parks and Recreation Department.
