BACKGROUND
The Police Department completed an extensive testing process for police sergeant in 2013 to fill two
vacancies in 2013 and one Patrol Sergeant opening due to the additional Investigation Sergeant position
budgeted for July 1, 2014.
Officer Jeremiah Simonson has been selected to fill the Patrol Sergeant opening in July. Tonight will be
his promotional ceremony before the City Council, with his formal duties to begin July 7,2014. Officer
Simonson has twelve and one half years of experience as a police officer with the Rosemount Police
Department. He served as a patrol officer,Dakota County Drug Task Force agent, and a Team Leader for
the Drug Task Force. Officer Simonson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement from
Metropolitan State University. His in-service training includes a Task Force Commander course,
supervision and management classes, and Incident Command in Law Enforcement.
The sergeant testing process included a comprehensive written exercise and an oral interview panel. Eight
police officers, or nearly half the police department's sworn-officers, tested for the position. The
candidates were evaluated by two panels consisting of City department directors,Police Department staff,
Chief Law Enforcement Executives of neighboring agencies, and leaders from Rosemount schools, the
business community, and a faith-based organization.
