Werner, Chief of Police AGENDA NO. 71 ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: oQ) RECOMMENDED ACTION: None BACKGROUND The Police Department completed an extensive testing process for police sergeant in 2013 to fill two vacancies in 2013 and one Patrol Sergeant opening due to the additional Investigation Sergeant position budgeted for July 1, 2014. Officer Jeremiah Simonson has been selected to fill the Patrol Sergeant opening in July. Tonight will be his promotional ceremony before the City Council,with his formal duties to begin July 7,2014. Officer Simonson has twelve and one half years of experience as a police officer with the Rosemount Police Department. He served as a patrol officer,Dakota County Drug Task Force agent, and a Team Leader for the Drug Task Force. Officer Simonson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Law Enforcement from Metropolitan State University. His in-service training includes a Task Force Commander course, supervision and management classes, and Incident Command in Law Enforcement. The sergeant testing process included a comprehensive written exercise and an oral interview panel. Eight police officers, or nearly half the police department's sworn-officers, tested for the position. The candidates were evaluated by two panels consisting of City department directors,Police Department staff, Chief Law Enforcement Executives of neighboring agencies, and leaders from Rosemount schools, the business community, and a faith-based organization.
