Greater MSP Pledge4ROSEMOUNTEXECUTIVE SUMMARY PORT AUTHORITY Port Authority Date: July 15, 2014 AGENDA ITEM: Greater MSP Pledge PREPARED BY: Kim Lindquist, Deputy Director ATTACHMENTS: Greater MSP Info AGENDA SECTION: New Business AGENDA NO. 5.b. APPROVED BY: RECOMMENDATION: Motion to Approve Pledge for 3 -year Financial Commitment to Greater MSP ISSUE Staff has received a request from Greater MSP to pledge financial investment in the organization for three more years. The City had previously committed for three years at $10,000. The first three years of the organization ends in 2014 and they are requesting organizations to re- commit for an additional three years. Over the last three years staff has received a few inquiries from Greater MSP. However the economy may have dampened that number. At this time we continue to work with Greater MSP and Umore on one large distribution project. With the anticipated development potential in UMore, continued involvement with Greater MSP would seem to be appropriate. The draft 2015 budget does include monies designated for this purpose. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends approval of pledging for 3 years a financial commitment of $10,000 to participate in Greater MSP. GREATER MSP" June 13, 2014 Dear GREATER MSP Partner and Investor, On behalf of all of us at GREATER MSP, I want to thank you for your generous support and involvement in your organization. Without your dedicated partnership, we would not be able to take on the mission we were charged with three years ago to accelerate capital investment and job growth in our region. Our work has been very exciting and momentum in the region continues to build. We are eternally grateful for the hard work and engagement of so many business, public, and nonprofit partners to move our region forward as we compete on a national and global scale. Enclosed are materials for your review as you consider making your 2015 -2017 investment pledge to recommit your support of GREATER MSP during our Investment Campaign. As Director of Investor Relations, I want to be sure you know about various ways to engage and participate in our efforts to build a stronger economy for our region. I am also available to meet in person or by phone to hear your ideas and answer any questions you may have. Please note the enclosed flyer inviting you to attend the June 25 Summer Investor Meeting. One result of this important work was the birth of GREATER MSP, this region's first regional economic development partnership. Since that time, GREATER MSP and its partners succeeded in winning 51 projects through 2013 for a total of $5.2 billion in economic activity in the region. That translates into an ROI for the region equaling $347 for every $1 invested in GREATER MSP. None of this tremendous work for our community could have happened without your help. Without you, we would never have succeeded in launching such an important new organization. I and the entire Board of Directors are very grateful for your commitment to GREATER MSP, and I certainly hope that you feel like your investment has "paid off" for our entire community. While we celebrate the accomplishments of the first three years, we also look enthusiastically toward the future of helping to strengthen Minneapolis and St. Paul. Over this past year, the GREATER MSP staff, Board and PAC, working with a broad array of regional partners and stakeholders, developed our region's first Regional Economic Development Strategy. The Strategy focuses on three key initiatives: • Telling "Our Region's Story." • Retaining and attracting key talent with the launch of our "Talent Task Force." • Building our "Sectors of Strength" for global leadership. If we're to tell our story to key decision makers across the country effectively; if we're to retain and attract the talent public, private, nonprofit, and academic employers need now and in the future; if we're to ensure our sectors continue to grow and emerge as global leaders, we need your continued support. Our 2015 -2017 Investment Campaign is focused on ensuring GREATER MSP's long -term financial strength for the region, so we can do the work that no business, government, or Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Econr omic Development Partnership 400 Robert Street North I Suite 16001 Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101 1 651.287.1300 nonprofit entity can do alone. As an investor - funded organization, this work will not happen without your financial support. On behalf of our Board of Directors, and our Investment Campaign Co- Chairs Laura Oberst of Wells Fargo and David Mortenson of Mortenson, Inc., I invite and encourage you to recommit your annual support in the amount of $10,000 for this important work. Enclosed you will find a 2015 -2017 Campaign Pledge Form. Please complete and return it to us at your convenience. Your continued support sends a strong message throughout the region that investing in GREATER MSP, investing in our region, is a good business decision and one that will result in an even stronger economy. Thank you, once again, for your steadfast support of GREATER MSP and the economic vitality of this region now and into the future! Please feel free to call me, David or Laura if you can any questions or comments about the organization. I look forward to seeing you at our June 25 Investor meeting. Sincerely, Timothy A.
