A member of the Rosemount High School track and field team, Payton Otterdahl,won two state
championships in June. Payton placed first in the shot put competition for double-A schools, and also
took the championship in the discus throw. The results were a major contribution to the third-place finish
by the Irish team in the state tournament. His two first-place results capped a successful season in which
he was undefeated.
Payton was named this spring by the Pioneer Press as the Male Athlete of the Year. He also won state
honors in the Gatorade Boys Track and Field state athlete of the year. Payton also competed in football
and wrestling. He graduated from Rosemount in June and will leave soon to attend North Dakota State
University.
Payton's head coach is Jay Hadeli.
