Gardeners had until October 24 to pull all the plants from their plots and remove any fencing or stakes. The rototilling will be done at the end of the month. Bird Houses - Jim Kluender is a Rosemount resident, a local birder, and an active volunteer. In the past Jim has built and installed wood duck and bluebird houses in various parks. This week Jim built two kestrel houses. Kestrels are among the smallest of the falcons. Jim has installed one of the birdhouses at the Flint Hills Athletic Complex and will install another one at the ball fields at UMore. These sites were selected because both are surrounded by agricultural property. Resilient Communities Project - Parks and Recreation staff members have spent considerable time meeting with students from the University of Minnesota as we work on the Resilient Communities Project. These meetings have taken place both here in Rosemount and on campus. Staff members have also been corresponding with students to answer their questions and share information via email. Fall Clean Up - The fall clean-up was held on Saturday, October 4. It was an unusually cold and blustery day and this may have kept the turn -out low. Nevertheless, we serviced 181 vehicles, only about ten less than last year. In addition to the disposal of construction, household, and automotive items, for the first time ever we offered a shredding service as a part of the clean-up day.
