BACKGROUND
The Police Department recently completed an extensive testing process for police s ergeant to fill vacancies
due to retirements . Officer Joe Risvold was selected to fill the first vacancy and started his duties on
Januar y 12 , 201 5 .
Sergeant Risvold has 8 years of experience with the Rosemount Police Department. He has served as a
patrol officer along with the specialty assignment of Field Training Officer and is in charge of alcohol
compliance checks. Sergeant Risvold attended high school at Apple Valley H igh School. After high school
Sergeant Risvold attend ed Minnesota State University Mankato where he was awarded a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Law Enforcement. Sergeant Risvold is married to Emily and they have rec ently moved
into a new home .
The sergeant testing process included a comprehensive written exercise and an oral interview panel. Six
police officers, tested for the position. The candidates were eval uated by t hree panels consisting of City
department di rectors, Police Department staff, C hief Law Enforcement Executives , leaders from
Rosemount school s, and the business community . At the completion of the process the officers had been
evaluated by sixteen different individuals.
