Attendance of ICSI REConEXECUTIVE SUMMARY Port Authority Date: January 20, 2015 AGENDA SECTION: AGENDA ITEM: ICSC RECon New Business PREPARED BY: AGENDA NO. 4 Kim Lindquist, Deputy Director .a. ATTACHMENTSAPPROVED BY: : RECon Program Guide K.L. RECOMMENDATION : If there is a determination to attend; the Group should pick one or two representatives from the Port Authority to attend. SUMMARY As part of the Retail Attraction initiative, Staff is recommending that the Port Authority send a delegation to the International Council of Shopping Centers RECon help in Las Vegas from May 17-20. This is an opportunity to meet face to face with retailers and present the market information we have from Buxton and our local information. It also will provide an opportunity to better understand what retailers are looking for and what their decision making criteria is. Staff attended the RECon on two different occasions 2010 & 2011. In reviewing that information it looked like I attended 10 or 11 appointments each year. These provided feedback although I cannot say that any of the meetings directly resulted in a new business. I did meet with Jimmy Johns, who ultimately came to the City several years later. Additionally, I was able to talk to hotel companies and find out about criteria for decision making. Those discussions also led to the City supported hotel market study. In the past there has been one staff member in attendance walking the floor and meeting with retailers. Staff is suggesting that two Port Authority members also attend to assist in the meetings and promoting Rosemount. The meetings are only approximately 15 minutes, so the conversation must be targeted and focused. There is additional time during the sessions or on the floor to have additional unscheduled conversations. From a budget standpoint, the attendance at the conference can be covered within the Port Authority budget. There is $5000 available for conferences and seminars. With two additional paid memberships ($100/year) the conference would be approximately $1800, the hotel approximately $1800 and the airfare for three, approximately $1800. There is additional funding designated in the marketing category of the budget. RECOMMENDATION Discussion of RECon attendance and determination of who could attend.
