SUMMARY
Chair Weisensel attended the National League of Cities conference and attended an economic
development presentation regarding the importance of a good website for economic development
attraction. Approximately two years ago the City modified their website and added a significant
amount of information relating to economic development activities. Staff continues to update the
website to try and keep information up to date. The City had also recommended review of the
economic development website as one of the Resilient Communities projects but unfortunately, it
was not matched with one of the University classes this year. With that in mind, and due to the
importance of a city website, staff is providing information about the recent updates made.
From a business attraction standpoint, the City relies on the marketing and website information
from Greater MSP to attract businesses to the Region. From that point, it is assumed that the local
website must carry pertinent information to differentiate the community from others in the Metro
Area. Several of the Community Development Directors in Dakota County have also asked that the
County (Dakota County CDA) take a look at their website and enhance the business
attraction/economic development information available. It is assumed that this issue will be raised
when the County begins to review their economic development goals.
For this agenda item, staff is anticipating Chair Weisensel would review a couple of the excerpted
slides from the larger presentation. Additionally,
website for clarity and ease of finding salient information.
