BACKGROUND
The Police Department has been informed by Sergeant Bryan Burkhalter of his retirement effective
February 27, 2015.
Sergeant Burkhalter has served the City of Rosemount for 31 years' in several different capacities. He is
currently serving as the Dayshift Patrol Sergeant. Sergeant Burkhalter began his career with the
Rosemount Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1983 after graduating from Rosemount High
School. In 1985 Sergeant Burkhalter volunteered with the Rosemount Fire Department, reaching the rank
of Lieutenant before leaving the Fire Department in 1996. In 1987 Sergeant Burkhalter was hired as a
fulltime Patrol Officer. During his tenure with the Rosemount Police Department, Sergeant Burkhalter
has also served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer (FTO), Detective and as the Commander of the
Dakota County Tactical Team (SWAT) called M.A.A.G. (Mutual Aid Assistance Group). Sergeant
Burkhalter has also served as Interim Chief of Police. In 2014 Sergeant Burkhalter was named as the City
of Rosemount's Employee of the Year.
Sergeant Burkhalter' s dedication to the profession and his experience has truly been an asset to the City of
Rosemount and the Rosemount Police Department. Sergeant Burkhalter will be greatly missed; however
we wish him the best with his retirement and in his future endeavors.
