BACKGROUND
The Police Department recently completed an extensive testing process for police sergeant to fill vacancies
due to retirements. Officer Shawn McMenomy was selected to fill the second vacancy and started his
duties on February 15, 2015.
Sergeant McMenomy has close to 4 years of experience with the Rosemount Police Department. He has
served as a patrol officer along with the specialty assignments of Crime Scene team member and a Police
Explorer advisor. Prior to being promoted, Sergeant McMenomy was assigned as a Detective with the
Rosemount Police Department.
Sergeant McMenomy grew up in Hastings MN where is father served as the Chief of Police. After high
school Sergeant McMenomy attended Minnesota State University Mankato where he was awarded a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement. Sergeant McMenomy is married to Paula and has a son
named Dean. He and his family have recently moved to Rosemount.
The sergeant testing process included a comprehensive written exercise and an oral interview panel. Six
police officers, tested for the position. The candidates were evaluated by three panels consisting of City
department directors, Police Department staff, Chief Law Enforcement Executives, leaders from
Rosemount schools, and the business community. At the completion of the process the officers had been
evaluated by sixteen different individuals.
