ATTACHMENTS: Screen shots of Dashboard mockup APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Discussion and guidance to staff The Council discussed last year directed staff to post online a set of statistics to aid the public in keeping abreast of trends affecting City activities. Some Council members are interested in a presentation resembling a “dashboard.” The Council discussed an early version of such an online presentation during a work session last May. A new version of the Dashboard, based on feedback from Council members and staff, is included with this memo. Among the issues requiring guidance from the Council: •Are the selected statistics the best available for the desired purpose of the Dashboard? •Are the graphics on the summary page (green for positive trends, red for negative, blue for neutral) appropriate in the context of each measured value? •Instead of comparing each value to a previous time period, should there be a value set as a goal (as there are for street pavement and snow clearing)? •Is the text on each page adequate to explain the measurements and their significance for a wide audience? •Are the graphs designed appropriately – in particular, should some or all of the vertical scales begin at zero?
