HomeMy WebLinkAbout20120125 YCRM MinutesROSEMOUNT YOUTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS JANUARY 25, 2012 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a regular meeting of the Rosemount Youth Commission was held on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 3:50 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 2875 1451h Street West, Rosemount. Chairperson Nicole Laumer called the meeting to order with Youth Commissioners Eichten, Neuens, Nelson, Hagen, Kutz, and Laumer attending. Councilmember Weisensel and Staff Liaison Emmy Foster were also present. Youth Commissioner Olson and Alternate Drew were absent. CONSENT AGENDA Motion called to approve the consent agenda. Motion by Laumer. Second by Hagen. Motion to approve the consent agenda. Ayes: 6 Nays: 0 Absent: Olson. Motion carried. Motion called to approve the minutes of the July 20, 2011 and the December 21, 2011 Youth Commission meetings Motion by Laumer. Second by Neuens Ayes: 6 Mays: 0. Absent: Olson. Motion carried. OLD BUSINESS 5 a. Discussion of Future Meeting Topics Commissioners revisited ideas from previous meetings on potential activities for the Youth Commission. Commission Hagen reported the Rosemount National Honor Society did not express an interest in partnering with the Youth Commission on upcoming projects. However, Commissioner Eichten suggested that the Rosemount Student Council may be open to suggestions. The Commission resolved to conduct a survey of the Rosemount High School student body on topics concerning the Youth Commission, particularly concerning potential Youth Commission activities. Commission members discussed possible subject areas and questions. Commissioners Laumer and Nelson formed a sub - committee to work on the survey and meet with Principal Wollersheim about the possibility of a student survey. The Commission discussed the possibility that a special meeting may need to be scheduled to tally the results of the survey. Staff Liaison Foster handed out information on a potential partnership opportunity for a "teen night" for middle school students. The planning group for "teen night" includes representatives from Rosemount Parks and Recreation, the YMCA, Lighthouse Church and Community of Hope Church. Representatives from those organizations are planning on attending the February 22 nd ROSEMOUNT YOUTH COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING PROCEEDINGS JANUARY 25, 2012 Youth Commission Meeting. Possible name suggestions for "teen night" were discussed and Foster will share the feedback with the planning group. NEW BUSINESS 6 a. Discussion of Commission Report to City Council The Youth Commission reviewed an initial draft of the Commission report to the City Council. Chairperson Laumer resolved to present the final version to the City Council at their February 61h City Council meeting. Councilmember Weisensel asked for input on topics concerning the Rosemount teen - night. REPORTS There were no commissioner reports. The next meeting of the Youth Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 3:45 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Rooms. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss, it was moved by Chairperson Laumer and seconded by Hagen that the meeting be adjourned.
