RECOMMENDED ACTION: Advise staff toward Council preferred option.
BACKGROUND
The normal equipment replacement schedule calls for the replacement of the City Council iPads this year.
IT Coordinator Jayson Solberg is suggesting replacing them with the Surface Pro 3 devices. These are
more robust machines in terms of processing power, screen size, and software. Perhaps most importantly,
he can manage them collectively as part of the overall system in terms of software updates, virus
protection, etc. which will save him time. The Surface Pro 3 is larger and heavier, however, and has a
higher initial cost.
Options include ordering Surface Pro 3 machines for the Council as recommended, proceeding with new
iPads or other devices, or waiting another year to replace the current iPads.

-Integrate completely with City of Rosemount systems with no additional software. System Center will
manage them remotely to protect against theft, malware, viruses, loss, etc.
-Use Active Directory for username and password. This is the same password that the Council uses for
their email.
-Will run City Microsoft Outlook and Office full version for documents and email.
-This will allow the council to view additional calendars with the Full Outlook client.
-Connects via RPC over HTTPS- No additional connection required to view outlook(Only need
internet)
-Has pen to mark-up notes on packets.
-Dropbox will still be used
-Has usb port
-Able to print documents to city printers
