ATTACHMENTS: Bid Alternate Drawing APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to receive bids and award the contract to the low bidder, Friedges Contracting Incorporated, for the base bid and the two bid alternates for a total bid amount of $261,392.50. ISSUE The City’s Capital Improvement Budget (CIP) identifies funding for the third and final phase of the construction at Prestwick Park to take place in 2015. The City had previously rough graded the park and installed the basketball court, parking lot and trails. In the fall of 2014, the City installed the playground structure. The City recently created plans and specification for the final phase of the project which will include final grading, baseball field, sun shelter, trails, color coating of the basketball court, seeding and landscaping. There are also two bid alternates for the project. The first bid alternate is a trail from the parking lot to the ball field and the second bid alternate is a trail at the northwest end of the park that provides a pedestrian connection from Ailesbury Way to Connemara Trail. Included in the packet is a drawing that identifies the two bid alternates. The engineer’s estimate for the base bid of the project is $240,016.25 and the total for the two bid alternates was estimated at $17,125.00. The project includes a 10% contingency which brings the total project cost estimate to $282,855.38 Funding for the project will come from the City’s park improvement fund which is primarily funded through the collection of parks dedication fees. The project was bid as per the City’s purchasing policy and also advertised at local builders exchanges. We also sent the advertisement for bid to several contractors who specialize in constructing park projects. Staff is planning for work on the project to start this fall and be completed early next spring.
