RECOMMENDED ACTION: Motion to approve the use of the identified item for official use
by the Police Department.
ISSUE
City Code 7-6 delineates the procedure for disposing of unclaimed property that comes into the possession
of the City. Typically, property is recovered by the Police Department during the course of a criminal
investigation or is recovered as abandoned in the community, e.g. shotgun.
BACKGROUND
The item described below has been held by the Police Department in excess of the 60 days required by
City Code 7-6. The Police Department would normally destroy this item however the Police Department
has a suitable use for the item.
The shotgun is suitable for use by the Police Officers for patrol operations. The shotgun will be utilized as
a less than lethal firearm. Staff has spoken with City of Rosemount Attorney Mary Tietjen and she has
reviewed Staff’s request and has advised we are authorized to retain the surplus if the Council approves of
the use.
