Exec Sum Hotel update E X E C U T I V E S U M M A R Y Port Authority Meeting Date: May 16, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Hotel Update AGENDA SECTION: Old Business PREPARED BY: Kim Lindquist, Deputy Director AGENDA NO. 6.a ATTACHMENTS: None APPROVED BY: ddj RECOMMENDED ACTION: Information only. ISSUE As the Port Authority is aware, an update to the Hotel Market Study was conducted at the end of 2015. There has been some question as to who received the document, excepting the Port and Council members. The following is a list of people who have received the study: All people associated with KJWalk properties including Warren Israelson, Luke Israelson, Bruce Rydeen and Christopher Byrd, who had looked at residential development on the site but also was connected to commercial developers. Hotel representatives recommended by our Study consultant because they had a product which included extended stay and regular hotel rooms combined in one facility. Chris Campbell, Best Western Hotels and Resorts David Self, Choice Hotels Shawn Siemers, Holiday Inn Express Businesses in the community who indicated they may know people interested in developing a hotel: Ryan O’Gara, SKB Scott Lindeman, Flint Hills Resources Brandon Barth, Celts Ron Carlson, property owner Casey Hankinson, Ryan Companies Gary Pahl, property owner Others: Michelle VanderVegte, AmericInn Bruce Newton, real estate-Grand Stay connections 2 CONCLUSION Given the conversation with a few of the people above, coupled with the issue of hotel attraction in 2010, the main issue seems to be identification of investors. There does seem to be some interest from a few of the chains. However, the companies don’t develop company-owned hotels and therefore it comes back to finding investors.
