Claret Park-Pickle Ball—The representatives in support of pickle ball in Rosemount addressed the Parks and Recreation Commission to explain about the growing popularity of pickle ball for all ages and to request that Claret Park's pickle ball/tennis courts be completely converted to pickle ball courts. In 2012 these courts were re-striped to allow for dual use,and they have been used for pickle ball and tennis since then. The pickle ball representatives provided survey feedback from 2012 and 2014 regarding interest u1 pickle ball, as well as a photograph of people using the Apple Valley pickle ball courts. They had also previously provided staff with an estimated cost for converting the courts (apprornately$20,000),and a list of the top 10 reasons to convert Claret Springs Tennis Courts (.ric)to piclle ball courts. These two items were included in this month's Commission packets. The Commission discussed the current condition of the courts, issues with limited parking at Claret Park, whether Claret Park is the best location for pickle ball courts, and that there are currently no funds set aside in the CIP budget for this project. The Commission felt that if additional parking were to be added at Claret Park the cost of the project would increase substanrially, possibly up to $100,000. Schultz will have the City's GIS and Engineering staff look into how many caYs could park on the street, and whether it would be possible to add off-street parking along 151St Street. Schultz will bring back a cost estimate from the court company,as well as parking information,to next month's meeting. Council Member Nelson addressed the Coininission and asked the pickle ball group what type of financial commitment they would be able to make to the project, and what they charge people who participate in tournaments. The group responded that they would be willing to do fundraising for the project, and that they typically charge $15 to $30 per person, per event, at a tournament. This item was tabled until next month's meeting. b. Director's Report—The park improvement fund balance as of r,ugust 31 was $558,292.82.
