ROSEMOUNT CITY COUNCIL SPECIALMEETING PROCEEDINGS MAY20, 2016 CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a special meeting of the Rosemount City Council was held th on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 7:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 2875 145Street West, Rosemount. Mayor Droste called the meeting to order with Council Members DeBettignies, Weisensel, Nelson and Demuth attending. Staff present included City Clerk Hadler and Parks and Recreation Director Schultz. NEW BUSINESS 2. a.Canvass of the May17, 2016Special Election Returns City Clerk Hadler provided a summary of election returns and presented Council with the Election Abstract. The referendum failed with 57% of voters voting ‘no’ and 43% voting ‘yes’. Council members discussed the perceived coverage and impact of the “vote no” fliers. Council member Demuth expressed concerns about negative comments on Facebook. Council member DeBettignies stated he believed the city did its due diligence. Council member Weisensel agreed that city did everything it could to educate the public. Council members discussed the 2015 school referendum and the difference between that and the city referendum. Council discussed various ice arenas in the county. Mayor Droste stated he had heard a suggestion for a mediated summit of all the ice groups in the county to figure out where to build a complex in Dakota County. Council member Weisensel stated that the failed referendum will make people innovate and come up with new ideas. Council member Nelson stated that other cities in the County fund amenities that our residents utilize. Members discussed amenities that have been added incrementally over the last 15 years. Mayor Droste suggested a special work session to address how to move forward; maybe in July. Motion to declare the results of the May 17, 2016 Special Election, as provided in abstract. Motion by Weisensel. Second by DeBettignies. Ayes: DeBettignies, Nelson, Droste, Weisensel, Demuth Nays: 0. Motion carried.
