SUMMARY
We have often held a Business Appreciation Lunch for all the businesses in town. Last year, we
moved the event to February to showcase the Steeple Center. The speakers were Mark Jacobs from
the Workforce Investment Board and Kim Budde, Vice Principal of Rosemount High School. They
talked about employee attraction and an employment program with the school. I believe their
presentation was well-received.
The Port Authority has held the event since 2008, skipping 2010. The question is whether the group
would like to keep the February timeframe for the event, or would prefer moving the luncheon back
to late fall. In 2014, we held the lunch in early December and in 2013, mid-November. If the group
would like to hold the event this year, we should start the planning to hold the date and obtain a
speaker. someone from
Greater MSP to discuss their talent attraction initiative or a panel with residential, commercial and
industrial developers who could give the group a sense of what they are seeing in the market place.
CONCLUSION
Staff is looking for direction regarding the program for the Business Appreciation Lunch and
discussion about timing for the event this year. If we move the event to February, we would
probably continue that tradition rather than move the date around. If we want to move it back to
end of year, to provide an end of the year wrap-up that makes sense too. We have found there are
more events toward the end of the calendar year and do want to make sure we can chose a date that
-related events.
