BACKGROUND
As discussed at the June 20, 2016 Utility Commission meeting, the City has entered into a Sanitary Sewer
Metering Agreement with Hawkins, Inc. The sewer meter was installed and calibrated in early September.
Based on the flow through the meter to-date, it is estimated that Hawkins, Inc. will save approximately
$20,000 in sewer charges after the first full year of operation, as shown in the calculation below:
Avg Gal of Water per Day 46,839
Avg Gal of Metered Sewer Discharge per Day 15,856
Avg Gal of Non-Discharged Water per Day* 30,983
Estimated Savings per Day (30.98 x $1.80) $55.77
Estimated Savings per Year $20,355
*These are the gallons of water for which we will no longer charge sewer fees (est. 11,300,000 annually)
The $20,355 estimated loss in revenue from Hawkins, Inc. represents 0.92% of the total projected Sewer
Utility Fund revenue for 2017, which is $2,204,200.
