BACKGROUND
In May of 2016 a veteran officer from the Rosemount Police Department announced his retirement. The
Police Department completed an extensive testing process for police officer to fill this vacancy. Officer
Joseph Hawkinson was selected to fill the vacancy and started with the Rosemount Police Department on
July 5, 2016.
Officer Hawkinson grew up in Maplewood, MN and graduated high school from Cretin-Derham Hall
where he exceled in baseball. Joe was recruited by Hamline University to play baseball; however after
several years he elected to transfer to Metro State where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Law
Enforcement. Prior to graduating Joe was hired by the Rosemount Police Department as a CSO in 2015
and he has worked very hard. Joe has been dedicated to learn as much as he could from the Rosemount
Officers to assist him reaching his goal as a Rosemount Police Officer. Joe is also a member of the Army
National Guard and works as Military Police Officer.
Officer Hawkinson has completed his Field Training Program and we are excited to see him succeed as a
