The Tree City, USA award is given to those cities that depict an honest and active program to promote the protection of our natural habitat and our trees. This is the City of Rosemount's 13 year of being recognized as a Tree City, USA. The requirements that must be met to be considered for the Tree City, USA award include: 1. Having a tree board or department (Public Works and Parks Recreation) 2. Having a Tree Ordinance 3. Having a Community Forestry Program with an annual budget of $2.00 per capita. 4. Having an Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation. It is the Parks and Recreation Department's intent to join with the Commissions, City Council and other Departments to further enhance our efforts relating to the preservation of our trees and to continue to reforest the city. Also a reminder to residents, please join us as we observe the 13th Annual Rosemount Arbor Day. A brief program hosted by Mayor Droste will recognize the importance of Arbor Day. We will also be giving away trees from six to eight feet in height FREE to residents of Rosemount. A variety of tree species will be available to the first 150 residents of Rosemount who have proof of residency. Due to limited quantities, there is a limit of one tree per household. These are bare root trees that need to be planted within 24 hours of the giveaway. The National fr Arbor Day Foundation® 211 N 12th St Lincoln, NE 68508.402- 474 -5655 We help people plant and care for trees:~ April 13, 2005 Congratulations to Rosemount on being named as a 2004 Tree City The trees we plant and care for today will cool and beautify our communities, increase property values, help clean the air and water, and conserve energy for years to come. An effective community forestry program is an ongoing process of renewal and improvement —a program of tree planting and care that continues through the years. The Tree City USA award is an excellent indication that there is a solid foundation for that process of improvement. Tree City USA is sponsored in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. State foresters are responsible for the presentation of the Tree City USA flag and other materials. We will forward your awards to Don Mueller in your state forester's office. They will be coordinating the presentation with you. It would be especially appropriate to make the Tree City USA award a part of your Arbor Day ceremony. Again, congratulations on receiving this national recognition for your tree -care program. cc: Mark Joosten Best regards, John Rosenow President arborday.org
