CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the meeting of the Environmental & Sustainability Task Force of the City of Rosemount was called to order on October 18, 2016 at 5:32 p.m. in the Conference Room of the City Hall, 2875 145th St West, Rosemount. Attendees included Members: Katie Koch-Laveen, Mark Glende, Rebecca Higgins, Renee Burman and Wade Miller: Council Member Vanessa Demuth, Senior Engineer Technician Derick Anderson, Interim Public Works Director John Morast. 2. ADDITIONS OR CORRECTIONS TO AGENDA There were no additions or corrections to the agenda. 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by Miller. Second by Higgins. Ayes: 5 Nays: 0. Motion carried. 4. PRESENTATIONS No presentations. 5. OLD BUSINESS a. Partners in Energy A partner in Energy Application (PiE) was submitted and the city can expect a response in about one month. Wade Miller agreed to be the Project Manager and offered for one Task Force member to also participate on the Project. Vanessa Demuth suggested that the Task Force look into other applications for energy grants with Excel and Dakota Electric. Renee offered an intern for the project, but Wade Miller suggested that it might be better to wait to determine the make-up of the PiE Project committee. b. Rosemount Clean-up day Rosemount clean-up day went well. Mark Glende attended as a helper to city staff. Mark noted that people passed through quickly, so there was no opportunity to share information about the Environmental and Sustainability Task Force. Renee attended as a citizen and also indicated that there were few opportunities to pass out information. c. Subcommittees The previously mentioned subcommittees were discussed and affirmed. Suggestion for the Water Conservation subcommittee included finding a way to provide “smart”, in-ground water sensors for lawn sprinkler systems in the city. Mark Glende suggested contacting Homeowner Associations. Vanessa Demuth and Derick Anderson both indicated that the city has been work working on acquiring smart systems for public areas and for working with the HOAs. Task force member will continue to research expanding the possibility of “smart” sprinklers for public and private lawns. Suggestions for the Energy subcommittee focused on connecting motion detectors to vending machines to allow vending machines to turn off when people are not present, for example nights and weekend. Derick Anderson and John Morast indicated that the City is working on installing motion sensors in public buildings. Vendors many already have similar equipment available. In addition Mark suggested that EXIT signs with LED lights will save energy costs. 6. NEW BUSINESS a. Council Update Mark Glende will report the activities of the Environmental & Sustainability Task Force to the City Council on November 1. Some of the activities that will be included in the report are the PiE application, a booth at Leprechaun Days festivities, presentations from Excel Energy, Dakota Electric, and Conservation Minnesota. b. Acronym An acronym for the task force was discussed. Adding Rosemount to the acronym seemed important to the group. The acronym REST - Rosemount Environmental & Sustainability Taskforce was favored. 7. ANNOUNCEMENTS New task for member, Jenna Halstead, reported to Vanessa Demuth that she will no longer be able to participate in the ESTF. 8. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to discuss the meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
