5. OLD BUSINESS
a. Partners in Energy
A partner in Energy Application (PiE) was submitted and the city can expect a response in
about one month. Wade Miller agreed to be the Project Manager and offered for one Task
Force member to also participate on the Project. Vanessa Demuth suggested that the Task
Force look into other applications for energy grants with Excel and Dakota Electric. Renee
offered an intern for the project, but Wade Miller suggested that it might be better to wait to
determine the make-up of the PiE Project committee.
b. Rosemount Clean-up day
Rosemount clean-up day went well. Mark Glende attended as a helper to city staff. Mark
noted that people passed through quickly, so there was no opportunity to share information
about the Environmental and Sustainability Task Force. Renee attended as a citizen and also
indicated that there were few opportunities to pass out information.
c. Subcommittees
The previously mentioned subcommittees were discussed and affirmed.
Suggestion for the Water Conservation subcommittee included finding a way to provide
“smart”, in-ground water sensors for lawn sprinkler systems in the city. Mark Glende
suggested contacting Homeowner Associations. Vanessa Demuth and Derick Anderson
both indicated that the city has been work working on acquiring smart systems for public
areas and for working with the HOAs. Task force member will continue to research
expanding the possibility of “smart” sprinklers for public and private lawns.
Suggestions for the Energy subcommittee focused on connecting motion detectors to
vending machines to allow vending machines to turn off when people are not present, for
example nights and weekend. Derick Anderson and John Morast indicated that the City is
working on installing motion sensors in public buildings. Vendors many already have
similar equipment available. In addition Mark suggested that EXIT signs with LED lights
will save energy costs.
6. NEW BUSINESS
a. Council Update
Mark Glende will report the activities of the Environmental & Sustainability Task Force to
the City Council on November 1. Some of the activities that will be included in the report
are the PiE application, a booth at Leprechaun Days festivities, presentations from Excel
Energy, Dakota Electric, and Conservation Minnesota.
b. Acronym
An acronym for the task force was discussed. Adding Rosemount to the acronym seemed
important to the group. The acronym REST - Rosemount Environmental & Sustainability
Taskforce was favored.
7. ANNOUNCEMENTS
New task for member, Jenna Halstead, reported to Vanessa Demuth that she will no longer
be able to participate in the ESTF.
8. ADJOURNMENT
