City Council regular meeting August 16, 2005
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Council at tonight's meeting holds its second recognition of students at Rosemount High School who
received an award this spring for projects completed during their participation in the Girl Scouts
THE GOLD AWARD
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest commendation that a Girl Scout ages 14 to 17 may earn The
organization's website explains
The Gold Award project is the culmination of all the work a gul puts Into "going for the Gold It
is something that a girl can be passionate about —in thought, deed, and action The project is
something that fulfills a need within a girl's community (whether local or global), creates change,
and hopefully, is something that becomes ongoing The project is more than a good service
project —it encompasses organizational, leadership, and networkuig skills
Tonight, the City Council recognizes the work of Girl Scouts at Rosemount High
PROJECT: DONATION OF BLANKETS

Stephanie, Jill, Lizabeth, Tegan, and Ashley decided that they could best serve their community by
donating blankets to organizations dedicated to serving those in need In addition to requesting and
receiving blanket and financial donations from businesses, churches, and schools, they organized a lock -in
which iaised blanket donations The girls also purchased fleece, which they fashioned into additional
blankets A total of 79 blankets were donated, with 39 gently used and new blankets given to the Simpson
Shelter in Mmneapohs and 40 new blankets given to the Rosemount Community Action Council

PREVIOUS RECOGNITION
In June the Council recogruzed another group who received the Gold Award Two members of the group
who did not attend previously have been invited for tonight's recognition

Cassandra, Diane, Melanie, and Stacey wanted to give underprivileged youth in Rosemount a chance to try
something new The girls demonstrated their individual leadership abilities by coordinating a unique
program of activities, advertising the program, and seeking donations from local businesses The
participants were welcomed with patience, energy, and smiles m a safe and happy environment The girls
and the children were grateful to have had this positive and very rewarding experience
